Start an NTHS chapter in your school or community
The National Tutoring Honor Society is a student-led society powered by the nonprofit UPchieve. Founding Presidents build a chapter of peer tutors, earn national recognition, and give students across the country free academic help.
The application to become a Founding President is open to UPchieve volunteers who have shown they're committed to tutoring.
Applications for Fall 2026 will be accepted until September 30th. 8 days left to apply.
Why Start a Chapter
Millions of students have no one to ask for help
Private tutoring costs more than most families can afford. At the same time, high schoolers who excel at math, writing, or science rarely get a real way to put those skills to use helping others. NTHS fixes both problems at once: you start a chapter, recruit tutors at your school, and your members provide free tutoring to students nationwide through UPchieve.

Every chapter turns a handful of students at one school into certified tutors reaching students who need help.

What You'll Lead
Founding Presidents keep the chapter running year-round.
Build Your Chapter
- Recruit a founding team and new members each year
- Ensure that every member completes UPchieve's onboarding and tutor training before they start tutoring
Lead Chapter Meetings
- Host regular meetings that build tutoring skills and community
- Attend national meetings with NTHS staff and other Presidents
Track Progress & Celebrate
- Track tutoring hours and celebrate when members hit milestones
- 2–3 hours/week in the fall, 1–2 hours/week in the spring
Eligibility
Who Can Apply?
NTHS is open to motivated high school students who are already active UPchieve volunteers. All that's needed is a commitment to service and leadership.
- Enrolled in high school (grades 9-12)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (unweighted)
- Demonstrated commitment to tutoring by being an active UPchieve tutor
- Committed to peer tutoring and educational equity
